SUSD 411 - Social Enterprise and Business Development

This Course introduces students to basic tenets of business development within the social enterprise and identifying business opportunities. The course will expose students to creating, growing and developing business ideas, managing finances, registering one’s enterprise, familiarize with types of business enterprises, legal requirements, registration, tax and related obligations of entrepreneurs etc. 

The objectives of the course are to:

i)  Identify the concept of social innovation, change making, and how social entrepreneurs are transforming society.

ii) Apply social entrepreneurial skills acquired to address social problems.

iii) Acquire business and entrepreneurship skills that will help build a sustainable business model.

iv) Discuss the role of measuring social impact and how measurement tools are important to investors, donors, and beneficiaries to help ensure that scarce resources are utilized effectively.
